CARTHAGO ITN

ESR5: UMCF, Romania

Optimisation of particle and hydrogel preparation and performance

Who are we?

The “Iuliu Hatieganu” University of Medicine and Pharmacy (UMCF) is the cradle of medical education in Cluj-Napoca, with a history dating from 1500, being now one of the most important and appreciated Romanian universities. UMCF belongs to the European University of Brain and Technology (NeurotechEU), offering a great potential for high-quality education and research.

The Pharmaceutical Technology and Biopharmacy Department conducts education and research in the drug development and manufacturing field. The main research directions of our department are: solid oral dosage forms, paediatric dosage forms, targeted micro- and nanosized drug delivery systems, and drug bioavailability and bioequivalence. Our research team designs innovative formulations and develops up-to-date technologies, for drug manufacturing companies, following Quality-by-Design (QbD) principles.

The department coordinates the Master’s and PhD programs, which addresses graduates of pharmacy, medicine, chemistry or biology, interested in modern dosage forms and the pharmaceutical industry.

In Carthago, the aim of our research will be to optimize the particle and hydrogel preparation and performance by using the QbD approach. We are enthusiastic about establishing connections with international researchers, and in welcoming them into our research premises.

Profile of the candidates

We are seeking candidates with background in pharmaceutical sciences. Candidates should hold a Master’s degree in pharmaceutical sciences or, at a minimum, in life sciences. Experience in drug development and manufacturing, particularly the formulation and design of nanoparticulate drug delivery systems is a requirement for this position. Skills in mathematics, statistics, and experimental data analysis are highly appreciated.

Terms of employment

The selected candidate – Early Senior Researcher 5 – will be offered a full-time PhD student position for 36 months, in the EC funded Horizon 2020 Marie Curie Innovative Training Network (ITN) CARTHAGO project no. 955335, at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Iuliu Hatieganu” Cluj-Napoca, Romania.

The terms of employment and salary are in accordance with the internal, local and national rules and the rules and regulations lay down by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Marie Sklodowska-Curie Action European Training Network.

The monthly salary:

Living allowance: 2,249.76 EUR / month;

Mobility allowance: 600 EUR / month;

Family allowance: 250 EUR / month.

The living allowance is a gross EU contribution to the salary costs of the researcher. Consequently, the net salary results from deducting all compulsory (employer /employee) social security contributions as well as direct taxes (e.g. income tax) from the gross amounts.

All eligible researchers recruited within an ITN are entitled to receive this mobility allowance. It contributes to the private mobility-related expenses of the researcher.

A family allowance will be paid should the researcher have family, regardless of whether the family will move with the researcher or not. In this context, family is defined as persons linked to the researcher by (i) marriage, or (ii) a relationship with equivalent status to a marriage recognized by the national or relevant regional legislation of the country where this relationship was formalized; or (iii) dependent children who are actually being maintained by the researcher.

There is an internal individual training budget to attend external courses, conferences or workshops. Travel and subsistence expenses (accommodation, visa, residency card) to the Partners will be supported from the institutional costs of the project budget.

The researcher will be recruited under an employment contract or other direct contract with equivalent benefits, including social security coverage.
